Clearly better quality in care

Nearly 20 years of nursing practise and in studying home care standards across many countries has helped the people behind Medicare understand clearly what makes real quality when you are in need of help, whatever your age or situation.

Real quality care means, quite simply:

• the  best  possible   nurses
• a fully regulated and authorised company
• a complete care service that leaves no gaps in the help you want and the service you deserve

Positively Pink is unique as a charity. Its sole purpose is to raise the necessary funds to provide a FREE breast screening programme to British Women who live on the Costa del Sol. The screening programme is a comprehensive screening process (Gold Standard) that includes a consultation, physical examination and health education as well as a mammogram or ultrasound or in some cases both. This is carried out in conjunction with Clinica Medicare a British health centre based in La Cala de Mijas. Medicare and its medical team provide their time, clinic space and expertise free of charge for the charity.

The cost of the Mammograms and ultrasounds whilst discounted are still a direct cost to the charity funds. In 2011 during our 4 month campaign Positively Pink was able to screen 512 women at a direct cost of €43,520 this is in excess of the funds that we have managed to raise during these difficult financial times.

In 2012 our aim is to provide more screenings to more women, but to be able to continue to offer breast screenings we need to raise more money to meet the costs. In 2011 we asked all the ladies that attended the programme to make a small donation to the charity, some attendees were incredibly generous but still we haven’t reached our target and covered the costs for all 420 women who received this screening for Free.

Positively Pink is determined to continue to offer a screening programme to British expats but in order for us to achieve this we have to change the format of how the charity operates. Therefore in 2012 we will continue to offer a Gold standard screening programme in conjunction with Clinica Medicare at a subsidised 10% of the actual cost. Ladies will be able to access this amazing screening programme for just €20.00 each, this money will go directly to the charity and will ensure that we can continue our life saving work.

Clinica Medicare and Medilink in conjunction with its preferred partners have compiled a comprehensive brochure titled “What every women needs to know” this is your free guide to breast self examination and this will be available to all ladies throughout the year and can be collected from Clinica Medicare in La Cala. Self examination should be a key part of a women’s monthly routine, you need to know what feels normal for you and when to seek further advice, 8 out of 10 breast lumps are found by women themselves.
